My Daughter's Eyes

A few months ago, I was thinking about my mom and my daughters and my granddaughter, the differences in our ages and the stages in our lives that we're each going through - and this is the stream of consciousness that emerged from my pen ...

My Daughter's Eyes
by jayayceeblog, march 1, 2010

Her newborn eyes look right past me, unfocused, unknowing

Her preschool eyes glow with excitement as she blows out candles, gazes at the Christmas tree

Her adolescent eyes crinkle with happiness from puppy kisses, in line at the movies, riding the Ferris wheel

Her preteen eyes study fashion magazines, algebra textbooks, guitar chords

Her teenage eyes glare with hostility, fume at the total unfairness of her boring life

Her young adult eyes sparkle with glee receiving her college diploma, accepting her dream job, saying yes to her sweetheart on bended knee

Her grownup eyes look at me with the dawn of understanding, the light of acceptance

Her middle-aged eyes look at me with concern, the fear of goodbye

My daughter's eyes have seen a lifetime of love

Happy Mother's Day to all ...

Wow! This post says it all Mom. Simply beautiful and very touching. You ought to submit this to a magazine. Lots of Moms...me included ...can relate to it.

OMG... how beautiful. I have three daughters and you say it perfectly. I think I might start taking pictures of their eyes at different stages of their life.

Thanks for following... Lori
