I love that you chucked the tomato plant! I almost did it this weekend with my daughter's Heelie's. She was chasing the dog around the house in them. I should have thought of that!

And I do not have the letter to the editor or maybe I do? I'm horrible at saving, although my mom has every single one of my editorials in a scrapbook, so at least someone was thinking.

I wrote a letter in response to another editorialist who had written a letter bashing some of our national policies at the time. It was whiny and ultra slanted and I just had to say something. When my soon to be editor called me, she informed me they'd gotten more letters to the editor over my letter than any other piece the paper had written in years. I'm sure my mom has it.

I do have framed and hanging on my wall an editorial I wrote about the horror of starting to be called ma'am. It was very tongue in cheek and honestly, it was one of my favorite pieces, but I found out you don't mess with certain things in the south and their ma'am's are sacred. If they could have run me out of town on that one, I do believe they would have. As I cried at all the hateful and angry letters I received my editor comforted me with, "To gauge a reaction, whether good or bad, of that calibre from the masses means you are writing well." I try to remember that.

The paper gave me that letter signed by all my editors in a beautiful frame, to remind me of how to write without fear. It's one of my most treasured keepsakes.
