Camera Recommendations

It's kind of shocking to be dreamily trolling through blog world only to realize you're being blamed for someone's behavior. Click here for the post at If You Ask Me. I have to admit, though, it is a fun idea to list all of your birthday wishes, especially if your Hubby reads your blog -- and pays attention!

So I've decided to twist this idea in another direction since I already know what I want for my birthday in December. In 1998, Hubby bought me a Sony Cybershot camera that has been really great. It brought me into the lovely digital photography world and has taken millions of fantastic pictures.

Lately, however, I've been having some trouble with it -- the on off sliding switch sticks and sometimes when I snap a picture, nothing happens. That's okay when you're taking a still shot of fruit or something, but when you miss a cute moment with the granddaughter or the dogs ... well, that's just unacceptable! Plus, it's on the heavy side. When I toss it in my purse to take it out for a spin, the purse drops about 2 feet. I might be exaggerating a little, but it really seems heavy. And when I see all of these tiny little slim credit card sized cameras being advertised, mine looks really big. Plus getting the little door open to remove the memory card for printing is a royal pain in the butt. I have broken more fingernails trying to pry that thing open and have recently resorted to using a butter knife.

Hubby got me a Sprint Moment phone for Christmas last year which has a camera and takes pretty good pictures on the fly. However, it does not zoom, which I use a lot so that is not the solution.

So I am asking of all of you bloggers who take wonderful pictures and have strong opinions ... what camera would you recommend? I am looking for the following features:

Small and lightweight (maybe fit in my jeans pocket)
Zoom lens
Ability to take macro photos
A Size 2 lens for when I am actually in the picture (not sure if this has been invented yet)
Good for action shots (my Sony has a delay so I often miss a picture by a second or two)
Takes great pictures

I'll leave you with a photo taken with my Sony that I just love ...

I have a cybershot that dh got me last summer that I love.

I've also had a cannon powershot that I liked- there's a "kids and pets" setting where there isn't a delay and it's good with subjects that don't sit still.

well, being that I only have my Behold Samsung phone for a camera, I can't give you a recommendation, but I will follow along because I really would love a camera too.

What a great idea! I've heard the Canon rebel is wonderful for starters. I don't know...I'm going to get a nice camera for the first time, too, this summer.

So, I'll eagerly be watching what you decide on.

So nice to meet you, and thank you for your visit and kind words.

Well I had a Canon camera and absolutely loved it that is until we went to Paris for Spring break and took all our beautiful pictures only to get home and discover the camera had ate them!!!!! I was furious and kept blaming the memory card since I had just bought it brand new until I tried 3 other memory cards in the camera and none of them would work either. So we decided to get a new camera and just keep the old one to scold whenever we needed to vent! Haha..really we do it!!

So I had shopped around and asked everyone I knew and then one day someone told me about a Sony camera and I had heard from a few other people that it was a great camera and since I am a total word of mouth person I decided to get it. The only problem was being overseas I couldn't find it and the dang postal service has these stupid regulations on what you can mail through the mail and I kind of needed one fast so I went to the store and lucked out. They just happened to have this Nikon P90 on sale from $465 to $297...can you say sold?!!!
It is not a fancy dslr and it is the top of the line but all I really want is to be able to take pictures when I want to and this has definitely exceeded what I expected. If you can find it for less then I would say definitely buy this one! It has so many different features that I can take pics of the girls doing sports or even inside a dark museum even when flash is not allowed so it is perfect for me.
If you want something a little smaller then look for the Sony Cybershot DSC-H20/B it came highly reccomended to me by several people who raved about it but it was not available for me so maybe you can get one!
Hope that helps and sorry for writing an entire book as a comment! LOL
