Singing in a Winter Wonderland

"color" photo taken in northern arizona the sunday after thanksgiving

So the Granddaughter and I were driving along singing at the top of our lungs to some Christmas CDs recently and she belts out ...

In the meadow we can build a snowman
Then pretend that he is Carson Brown

She didn't know what a Parson was. I had to explain it.

Made me think of some of the other disasterized lyrics we've been responsible for over the years. Our Oldest Daughter used to love the Billy Joel song "Keeping the Faith"

We were keeping the faith
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, keeping the faith

Except she'd sing

It's a kick in the face; yeah, yeah, yeah, a kick in the face.

One of my personal favorites that I sing wrong on purpose because it makes me laugh and makes the kids groan is "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John ...

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway

becomes

Count the head lice on the highway.

Hubby's sister was in a Christmas program at parochial school as a child and as they sang "Jingle Bells," she would swing her bent arm and punch the air for emphasis as she sang with gusto

Oh what the fun it is to ride

I would have loved to see the looks on the in-laws faces as they cringed throughout this rendition.

I just heard Fay McKay singing "The 12 Days of Christmas" on the radio a few days ago for the first time. It is quite a hoot ...

My favorite part is when she sings Mine eyes have seen the glory!

Do you have any mangled lyrics you'd like to share?

Oh my goodness, so many lyrics, so many jokes! I think every family has their own "mangled" versions of songs. My baby sister was notorious for her special renditions. Here are a couple of my favorites:
From the song "dirty deeds done dirt cheep" it becomes "dirty cheese dunder jeep".

From CCR's "Bad Moon on the Rise" it becomes "There's a bathroom on the right"
Makes me giggle just hearing her sing them in the backseat growing up. :D

You never cease to brighten my day! My children delight in changing the lyrics to songs. It gives them hours of belly laughing. Most are NOT appropriate for Grandparent's ears. Most days I realize I am not raising children; I am just raising a barrel of Monkeys!

Hahaa, those are great!!! I know I've mangled too many songs in my life... and my four year old daughter does all the time. Like when I sing "You are so Beautiful" to her. After the line of "You are so beautiful to me, can't you see", she always adds "me." So it becomes, "You are so beautiful to me, can't you see me." It's too cute and makes me laugh every time. :)

As far as mangled lyrics ~ I can remember being a teen and my Dad and I were driving along in his TransAm (yes, he was cool like that ;)!!) and ZZTop was blaring and I sang with all my 13 yr old might something about "Cheese Enchiladas" I thought my Dad was going to wreck. He turned around and was laughing so hard at me....I can't even think of which song or what the correct words were but ....I will never forget that day!

Happy Weekend! Thanks for letting me laugh AND go down memory lane! You're the best!

"Check the balls of the long-haired Collie. He has reasons to be jolly."

....and....

"Hark, the hare-lipped angels sing, glphef vophef fkiph...."

from my BF's Dad.
